Wingspan : 80-100 mm

This insect shows a further development of the descombesi/belisama type. The forewing apex is more pointed than any others of the group.

The female recto is remarkable, for the group, in being entirely brown, with only prominent white discocellular white patches, on both wings.

Two unusual specimens are shown below.

A rare aberration showing a male specimen with markedly paler colouring and without the usual red basal marking on the underside hind wing.

The male specimen shown above, is labeled as coming from Alor, which is in the Lesser Sunda Islands. I have no records of this species being found there before. It differs from the nomotypical form, by having clear orange markings in the cell of the forewing verso. Whether this is a true subspecies, or simply a form, I can not tell. It will need detailed examination to ascertain it's true status.
A common species on Sulawesi.
