This species was originally named Delias paniaia
(Roepke). However, the name paniaia is already taken with D.fascelis
paniaia, and is therefore invalid. My understanding is that
D.s.enarotali is the new name for D.paniaia.
This species is very similar to D.isocharis and
D.ligata, and it's true status is a matter of some discussion. The whole
Group needs a complete review.
The easiest way to identify these species is by the
length of the white area outside the red submarginal line. It extends
furthest in paniaia and least in isocharis and is
non-existant in ligata. |
