Delias clathrata clathrata
A new paper on this group has recently been published by Henk van Mastrigt, 'A review of the Delias clathrata group from Irian Jaya and Papua New Guinea', published in Neue Entomologische Nachrichten, 48.Band, ISSN 0722-3773 in May 2000,which has revised this group completely. I do not agree with everything in that publication, and where there is disagreement, both points of view will be stated in the notes.

This group is related to the
albertisi, bornemanni and geraldina (part), groups. The albertisi group has a broad black border from the apex to the anal area, and the bornemanni and geraldina groups do not have a powdering of yellow or orange on the inner area of the underside hindwings.

Many of the species are extremely rare, due to the high mountainous regions in which they are to be found.

New species and subspecies are being discovered on a regular basis as more of the island is being explored.

Thanks to Robert Gotts, this Group is extremely well represented by way of species and subspecies photographs.
