: Very similar to D.hippodamia, but may be distinguished in the male by the reduced orange suffusion on the underside hindwing, and the greater black dusting on the upperside forewing. the female differs by having considerable enlarged dark markings on both sides of the hindwing.

To have two so similar species divided by the huge island on New Guinea, where no comparable species are to be found is puzzling.
