Linked by Talbot to D.yabensis and D.angiensis, this species, however, more closely resembles D. pheres, but is easily distinguishable by the greater extent of white in the cell of the underside forewing.

Male: Upperside similar to pheres. Fore wing with the white marks more extended in cellule 3 and usually to beyond the end of the cell. Hind wing with black border narrower than in pheres. Underside of fore wing as in yabensis but seldom beyond end of cell. Hind wing with a narrower band than in yabensis.

Female: Upperside as in approximata. Fore wing below as in the male but the cell is more narrowly bordered with black, the edge of the white area sharply defined. Hind wing with the band rather white and broader than in the male.
