Species details : There appears to be two different subspecies on Samui. The common form is D. b. pratipa, which can be found anytime of the year all over the Island. The much rarer subspecies, which may also be present in Singapore, as I am aware they have a similar form, differs in that it has white subapical spots on the forewing. The larva is also different, having red spots.

As can be seen from the above photos, the undersides of both sexes are extremely variable.

Larval Foodplant : Artocarpus heterophyllus (Moraceae), Girardina heterophylla (Urticaceae), Strobilanthus dyeriana and Ruellia graecizans (both Acanthaceae)

Range                    :Ssp. D. b. pratipa, Peninsular Thailand and Malaysia. Ssp D. b. ssp? - unknown. Other subspecies widely distributed throughout tropical Asia, from Sri Lanka and India to Australia and the Bismarcks.
