| Species details : This
species is quite variable in the darkness of the black markings, which
makes it very difficult to say precisely which subspecies this is. C.
t. mithila is from the north of Thailand, and C. t. rotundata
is from the south. They tend to meet around the Isthmus of Kra, and so
we may have both forms here. However, there is very little difference
between the two, and if they do meet here, then intermediate forms will
also be found making it even harder for correct identification. The
likelyhood, is that it is probably C. t. rotundata. This is a very common butterfly, primarily of the forests, but can also be seen frequently in secondary vegetation, and even, occasionally, in gardens where it likes to feed on lantana flowers. Early stages : Known. More detailed life history information is available from the following resources: S. Igarishi - Life Histories of Asian Butterflies, Volume.2 , Page 451. Larval Foodplant : Hydnocarpus ilicifolia (Flacourtiaceae) Range : N. E. India to the Malay Peninsular. Other subspecies in S. China, Sundaland and the Philippines. |
