Species details : This is one of the commonest butterflies on Samui. It is very similar to Ideopsis vulgaris, the main difference being the shape of some of the spots on the forewing, which, in I. similis are rounded and I. vulgaris, wedge shaped. It can be found anywhere on the island except for in deep forests. Early stages :
Larval Foodplant : Diplacosia glaucescens, Cocculus laurifolius (both Menispermaceae), Cryptolepis buchanani (Periplocaceae), Gymnema acuminata (Asclepiadaceae) and Parsonsia helicandra (Apocynaceae) Range : Sri Lanka, The Nicobars, Sumatra and S. China through to Thailand as far as Kedah, Malaysia |
